The production of Thermo-Mechanically Treated (TMT) bars commences from the selection of the raw materials. To manufacture the highest quality TMT bars, iron ore, coal and limestone used in the extraction and manufacture of steel billets from the ore are required. In this light, strict quality checks are observed under these raw materials to be used in producing quality and efficient TMT bars.

The Thermo-Mechanical Treatment Process

 All the above essential steps are included in the Thermo-Mechanical Treatment process of TMT bars, which imparts certain properties that offer excellent performance to the TMT bars.

Raising the temperature of steel billets. The first step encompasses raising the temperature of steel billets to relatively high values, usually from 1100 to 1200°C. As a rule, it is done in a reheating furnace so that the temperature is the same everywhere around the surface of all the billets. So it happens that at this raised temperature, steel is more ductile and will be handled like that easily in future operations.

Quenching Process: When the required heating degree of steel billets is attained, rapid cooling or quenching of the same then takes place since water is sprayed on the billets. This promotes their reconversion in such a way that the adequate surface of the billets cools so rapidly that it becomes solidified to form a hard martensite outer layer. Inside, moderately cool, the core of the billet remains in a state of austenite structure.
